Bread and Circus
Nantes, France
2018

Collaboration with Zoerism Matt Pommier and l.e.other.
Bread and Circus is a reference taken from the Roman poet Juvenal. The term was used to discuss the shift of public attention away from political discourse through amusing distraction and celebration

First used in 2nd Century AD, these principles remain present in todays political climate but rather than subvert rebellion; the system has adapted to accommodate it. The concept of revolt has become institutionalised to such a point, that the act of rioting has become a variation of Bread and Circus; permitted in designated locations in an attempt to appease and manipulate the masses

The installation at Nantes for @transfertco is part of a satirical series focusing critical sociological issues. Through a version of ‘honest politics’ the project suggests lifting the veil to show plainly and without subversion, the intent and the consequences of the problems plaguing our time.
