10 conflicts to watch today

| 04 | 12 | 2021

Oil on canvas
120x85cm

The title of this painting is taken from an article written in 2021 listing the top “10 conflicts to watch today”. The nature of these lists parallels the frivolity of its unfortunate title, yet faithful to the current demand in media.

Through a game of arbitrary‘s one conflict is picked out and chosen to be depicted in this piece.
The conflict is the riots and demonstrations happening in Colombia against corruption in the government.
The choice of the color yellow references the term “Amarillista”, or “Yellow Journalism” which meaning is associated with morbid or sensationalized press strategy used to increase sales.

This piece invites us to reflect on our reaction to conflicts, the use of media and social networking, why this demand is produced, and how we interact with our environment including each other.
